The Nordmanm Fir (or Abies nordmanniana) is a “non drop” Christmas Tree which is the market leader when it comes to quality. Simply put, you wont find a better, more beautiful Christmas Tree.
Labelled “non drop,” these Christmas trees are known for their superb needle retention ability – their needles stay longer on the tree than most. In addition, they have a lovely deep green glossy foliage, and the needles are not sharp – so when the house is full at Christmas and someone brushes the tree, they won’t get quite the same prickle. And when it comes to the ‘big clean up’ in the new year, your carpet will be (almost) needle free! These qualities make the Nordmann Fir the favourite among Christmas trees.
Our Nordmann Fir is native to the mountains west and east of the Black Sea, in countries such as Turkey, Georgia. In these countries it grows at altitudes of 900–2,200 m on mountains with a rainfall of over 1,000 mm, however it flourishes at slightly lower altitudes in the hills of Scotland (with a touch more rainfall!), where our trees are sourced from. The Nordmann Fir is now grown across Europe, and is the preferred tree.
The Nordmann Fir is a large and evenly spread evergreen coniferous tree, which will grow up to 60 m tall with a trunk diameter of up to 2 m if allowed. Sadly the largest tree we offer oly measures 25ft, but if you’re in the market from something bigger, we may be able to lend you a chainsaw and a map!
The leaves are like a flattened needle, 1.8–3.5 cm long and 2 mm wide by 0.5 mm thick. They are glossy dark green above with a blue/whiteish underside. The tip of the leaf is usually blunt, often slightly notched at the tip. The Nordmann Fir truly is the Christmas tree of choice, and the trees we have to offer will not disappoint you.
